    lower case omega

Posted in words at 8:39 pm by electricvishnu

here’s to exploding [like: party poppers, '99 luftbaloons', 'roman candles'] if only to collect the pieces – package them – and sell them on the gray market.

here’s to the end. omega. montauk. and none of that “meet me in montauk,” shenanigans – well, if you must, then i guess you must – so in that case meet me in montauk.

it’s because you have to go all the way to the end to know where you stand, or if you can’t go all the way to the end – because like epsilon we’re always that slight bit greater than zero – then as you go you’ll at least get it a tiny bit more and more. if you don’t really get my drift (like the wood bobbing in eight footers crashing on the rocks and surfers and the rest), then you may have never been. if you aren’t following, then i’d suggest that you go sometime . . .

so it’s on an island [one of rightfully bogus repute]; it takes a long time to get there; it’s in the opposite direction of home [the great state of nj]. one might call the trek epic [or three-pee-one-sea]. one might even suggest that it’s something of a long island singularity. i’m not going to make bold claims. i’m not going to even get religious about it.

but stand on the rocks. see an island fifteen miles away. {coast guard cutters pass through the view} is anyone on those shores looking west? [approximately 180 degrees from silhouettes growing taller and taller in this hour of urgency (analogous to the late-summer last days of august)] you just don’t know. like that quote from the movie that never existed but in your own head – you never can tell really, or ever ask why. so across the sound [like the din in that crowded room] – one on one side and one on the other – each waxing pensive as the shadows grow tall – like each one driving – looking for something: soothing in the late-summer late-night [like a slurpee] or reassuring like the clockwork streetlights of a valley that’s home to noone and everyone all at once. but it’s different. it’s different a few years later and it’s different when the roads are empty and it’s different in midday and it’s different in the fog [when you can’t see the other shore and therefore are left with only quiet and perhaps more selfish reflections on the majesty of the rocks and a collection of the twenty-somethings confused – trying to figure it all out between atlantic-sprayed jetties – and the thoughts that there might not be anything more beautiful on the planet than weathered and defunct military battlements and bunkers, nike missile launching pads overrun with weeds and fauna, lookout perches over cliffed beaches now fallen into the ocean – whose waves will crash and lap longer than any of us can fathom . . .

judging by the tones and questions asked by the newschanneldouchebag alert teams out there in local news tvland, one might surmise that there is a war out there . . . ummmmm it’s raining yes there is lightning too . . . ok tornado warnings . . . mmmmkay but i think we’ll survive this one guys

“these thick clouds are rolling in .. . IT LOOKS LIKE THE MOVIE INDEPENDENCE DAY!” (true quote from channel n) “here in astoria, very much indeed, everyone is looking at the sky . . . saying OH BOY . . . ” alright it’s beautiful over here, but i’m still holding out for the shitshow at the end of the world.

why is the local news so lame?

heading downtown -> i hope i meet something scoring a 97 on the fajita scales [it's just rock and roll]

on, or just beside, the semicolon

Posted in words at 11:45 pm by electricvishnu

there is much providence in the semicolon; there might just be salvation in the three point five minute pop song.

it is shading, glossing over the and? perhaps a but?

indirect and beautiful; a renaissance demarcation punctuation

(sometimes sly ; ) [understated like the french horn solo in the bridge of that song -- precise without being pushy]

    you can’t really quit the signs – on sides of roads and in between clauses and even in the miso soup {lest we forget our fractal friends}

from here on out it’s pop music [my band's built this blue time machine], bukowski on the beach, overphotoshopped images [dripping with color -- even if not-quite-earthly -- overproduced, perhaps short on substance, yet never less than inspired], and the solace in knowing that e to the pi * i is still negative one.

all sorts of surreal: radiohead [and the roots and many more] at liberty state park in the jc.

and you keep looking behind you to see the city skyline [see if it's still there i guess] and it’s an uncommon angle that makes it all the more magic – it’s almost as if we’re tethered to these large buildings and city corners covered in the mesh of grid and light and whatever else

    the opener:

    f-in radiohead, man

and the roots – the surprise live gem of the year. you must respect any band that rocks a tuba.

opening ceremony to the olympics in bejing or some sort of portal? [wormholes anyone?]
perhaps to a parallel universe where the dalai lama throws out the first pitch for the baseball [it's such a shame we can't grace the international community with such graceful superstars like man-ram, the rocket, barry bonds, and so forth]

just in time for the whole world unity at the olympics thing:  war in the caucuses

so tonight i’m making that journey under the rivers and through the woods to the BK (having it your way right away?  another hootie and the blowfish show?)

nope, i’m going to brooklyn: seeing the black keys at that pool before they fill it up again or do whatever they might do to it that will prevent it from hosting rock and roll shows like these.

branding and no branding and all that – appropriate times mag article.

pop country might just be a secret guilty pleasure?   but must i declare that if i’ve already copped to the rest of pop-trash.  [if only i could write the perfect euro-pop-trash-theme-song. . .]

hootie and the blowfish embody so much of what is right and good about the south. the ultimate bar band came to the bergen pac in englewood, nj, and when hootie comes about fifteen miles from your house, how could you possibly refuse?

cracked rear view is one of those desert island cd’s [though the romantic notion of the desert island cd is slowly being trounced upon by pocket sized collections of discographies of anyone you could possibly hear thus far in a twenty-four year existence]
